Artist Statement
I am a fine art photographer based in Annapolis, Maryland, with a focus on the Chesapeake Bay and maritime landscapes beyond. My work leans toward a documentary style, guided by an artist’s eye for light, detail, and storytelling. I’m drawn to the ways people live with water: crabbers hauling pots at dawn, sailors chasing wind across the Bay, fishermen abroad working coastal harbors. To capture the perfect shot, I might be belly-down in the marsh, tiptoeing through a refuge, or crouched in a skiff—coming home with a camera full of images and a body full of mud, scratches, and mosquito bites!
Over the years, my photographs have been featured in regional magazines and exhibited in juried shows at venues including Maryland Hall, Quiet Waters Park, and the Annapolis Maritime Museum. Along the way, I’ve been honored with awards that recognize this work—acknowledgments that deepen, rather than define, my commitment to telling the stories of life on the water. These settings have allowed me to share images that connect local audiences to the waterways that shape their daily lives while also linking the Chesapeake to a broader global story—one carried across harbors, fisheries, and working waterfronts, alive with both tradition and natural life.
I don’t always work alone—my husband, a biologist and wildlife expert, is my partner in crime, serving as driver, wildlife spotter, and patient carrier of the heavy gear that makes this work possible.
Whether close to home or traveling farther afield, my aim is the same: to create photographs that hold still the fleeting ties between people, wildlife, and the waters they depend on.
